Don’t Be No Fool

It is not every song that gets me to my feet, but we all have certain music that simply propels us to move.  It inspires us to find our rhythm and express how we feel in that moment.  This particular lyric is personal; I was young, free and headstrong.  I remain in my heart that person to this day and every time I hear it the essence of me rises to the surface.  I can feel who I am as I allow the words to wash round me, sing at the top of my voice and whirl like a delighted dervish.  I have not been a fool, in love or in life. I managed to navigate a path strewn with dangers, in my own way and somehow, despite my cavalier attitude, found a route through.  I found the determination to meet the challenges, the strength to rise after every fall, the wisdom to learn from my mistakes, the bravery to embrace change, the confidence to be true to myself and the humility to live a life I feel privileged to have with honesty to myself, trusting of my instincts and knowing I rise not by standing on others but by standing with others.  When we rise together, equal, supporting and understanding one another we rise further than we imagined was possible.  Whether it is love, life or being you…don’t be no fool.
